People Insight Releases Latest Annual Engagement Data

London, United Kingdom, (13th March 2012) – People Insight, a leading provider of employee engagement and employee survey services, has released its 2011 Annual Engagement Index, which shows that employee engagement levels have remained broadly steady through 2011.

Incorporating data from over 300 surveys and 330,000 respondents, their Engagement Index showed engagement levels remained steady at 76 percent.

Other highlights from the Index included the discovery of high correlations between engagement and perceptions of good quality and customer service, and that achieving a healthy work-life balance is an increasingly difficult goal for the more engaged employee. It was also found that when employees believe actions will result from employee engagement surveys, they tend to be significantly more engaged than when they think surveys are a ‘tick box’ activity.

Tom Debenham, Managing Director of People Insight, said: “This demonstrates that the changes in engagement levels being seen in individual organisations on the whole cannot be ascribed to external, macro-factors, but can largely be ascribed to what is going on within the organisation itself (including those that are transforming in the face of external change).

“Engagement is largely a function of the micro environment of the organisation (leadership, values, customer-orientation, employee voice, empowerment and so on), and we shouldn’t look to the external macro-environment to explain the extent to which our own people are engaged.”
