Poole Alcock Comments on the Localism Bill

Cheshire, United Kingdom, (2nd March, 2012) – Poole Alcock LLP, professional, qualified and experienced solicitors in Chester, comments on the introduction of the new Localism Bill.

The Localism Bill was given Royal Assent on 15 November 2011, and introduces changes to the planning system and the way local governments operate. The legislation will have an impact upon the manner in which the development industry and local communities engage with the planning system.

The Bill gives new rights to community groups and allows more flexible arrangements for social landlords and their tenants. The provisions of the Localism Act will be implemented through the passing of regulations over an as yet unspecified period of time.

A spokesperson for Poole Alcock LLP commented: “We wonder how the planning system will deal with matters relating to the Bill in the meantime, before local plans and neighbourhood plans are approved. However, we have faith that the Localism Bill will, over time, help to reduce the bureaucracy associated with the central government and ultimately put the power back into the hands of the communities and individuals who can more efficiently address the needs of their local area.”
