Birmingham, United Kingdom (10th August, 2012) – Trucks Direct UK Ltd, one of the UK’s largest suppliers of quality used forklift trucks for sale and hire, urges those who use and maintain forklifts to take action following the World Health Organisation’s classification of diesel exhaust fumes as carcinogenic.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a panel of experts working for the World Health Organisation, have recently concluded that exhaust fumes from diesel engines do cause cancer. This finding is based on research conducted on high-risk employees, including railway workers and truck drivers, who were regularly exposed to diesel fumes.
It is presumed that those working in the at-risk industries are as much as 40% more likely to develop lung cancer than those in other professions.
The IARC previously labelled diesel exhausts as potentially carcinogenic to humans, but has now concluded that they are a definite cause of cancer. These findings now place diesel exhausts in the same group as carcinogens such as plutonium, sunlight and alcohol.
