The Most Christmassy Towns in England

Christmas can be a magical time for both adults and children, but some of England’s cities make a bigger effort to celebrate the season than others. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most Christmassy towns in England…
Winchester

With ice skating to the sounds of the Cathedral’s choristers and fabulous, atmospheric Christmas markets, the ancient city of Winchester is looking to steal the crown as the most Christmassy town in England. The city has plenty planned for this Yuletide season in order to get everybody in the festive mood.
At the heart of the celebrations will be Winchester Cathedral’s annual Christmas market inspired by the traditional German ‘Weinachtsmarkt’. Christmas shopping can be extremely stressful, forcing your way through the high-street throngs to get to your chosen department store, but shopping at an enchanting festive market can be a lot more fun – with tasty local produce, a beautiful array of arts and crafts and the smell of roasting chestnuts and mulled wine filling the air, you can’t go wrong!

Hungerford

Hungerford in located in West Berkshire and will hold a stunning Victorian Extravaganza in the run up to Christmas. The day is a busy one, and starts early – there are local dignitaries in Victorian clothing who sit on the steps of the Town Hall eating a hearty breakfast, braving the chilling temperatures. The official opening of the Extravaganza sees the bands start up – the Scottish Pipe Band, the Hungerford Town Band and Phoenix Band, bringing the evening to life and getting everyone in the mood for a very merry Christmas!

The streets bustle with entertainment in the form of Punch and Judy shows, stilt walkers, clowns, jugglers and of course Father Christmas! The shops will be open with their employees dressed in Victorian dress and even serving mulled wine and mince pies to their customers! A great way to kick off the festive period!

Most towns in England have festivals and markets to put their residents and visitors in the Christmas spirit, but some just do it a little better than others! Christmas is one of the most special and enchanting times of the year and these two towns really make the most out of it. Both Winchester and Hungerford have plenty of new homes for sale – if you want to relocate and if you love Christmas, why not choose one of the most Christmassy towns in England?
