Oxon, United Kingdom (22nd October 2012) – AwesomeBooks, a leading online retailer of new and used books, has been named the winner of their National Poetry Day competition, which took place earlier this month.
On the 4th of October, National Poetry Day saw events, competitions, quizzes, commissions, and initiatives happening all around the country, following ‘Stars’ as its overriding theme. Launched in 1994, Poetry Day is part of the Forward Arts Foundation’s family of events, and is designed to encourage more people to enjoy poetry, for both reading and writing. AwesomeBooks wanted to celebrate National Poetry Day whilst promoting the wide range of collections available, and so launched the competition with five of their top poetry books on offer.
The prize assortment featured collections for children as well as adults, to ensure all age ranges had poems to engage with and enjoy; the inclusion of poems for younger readers was also selected to coincide with the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Awards, which were held on National Poetry Day. In order to enter, people simply had to like, share, or comment on AwesomeBooks’ Facebook profile. On the 8th of October, AwesomeBooks announced Megan Bailey as the winner, selected from hundreds of entrants.
