Pitman Training Comments on Lack of UK-based Training for Polish Workers

London, United Kingdom (11 March 2011) – Pitman Training, a leading provider of secretarial, executive PA, touch typing and bookkeeping courses, comments on their belief that Polish workers in the UK are being held back more than English workers due to a lack of UK-based training.

While the debate over Polish workers in the UK continues, many UK jobs are being filled by migrants who often have qualifications far superior to many unemployed Brits. However, highly-educated Polish nationals are still finding it difficult to find employment in the UK that utilises their skills.

The Polish education system is first class and there are a large number of Polish nationals who leave school with an education in economics, marketing, management and sales, but it has been suggested that their lack of UK-based training is holding them back.

Research carried out by Capita over 500 of the top UK companies has found that more than half of all business owners are doubtful of their ability to teach new employees the skills that they need. Of these same business owners, 70 per cent believe that inadequate skills are the biggest threat to the company’s success.

But Polish nationals can make themselves stand out to prospective employers simply by enrolling on UK-based training courses. Skills and training courses prove invaluable to foreign workers because not only do they gain a UK recognised qualification, but they can learn extra skills that are specific to their chosen industry.

Keith Wymer, Principal of Pitman Training Manchester, has helped hundreds of Polish nationals to gain UK qualifications in order to find work, and believes that it is the best way of improving your chances of finding an office job.

He said: “When I speak to Polish students who have made the long journey to the UK, they all want to be in a job that they feel they can succeed in. They have lots of ambition and they often come to the UK with university degrees, but lack the skills that will help them to succeed in businesses here.

“The simplest of training courses can really make a difference and will act as a stepping stone to bigger and better things for those who are looking to move to the UK and work.

“Many of those Polish workers who are stuck in dead-end catering jobs will be feeling as though they have a lot more to offer, but without the right training it will be hard for them to move into the career they desire.”

With a lack of available jobs in the UK, Polish workers who prove their commitment by taking extra training are sure to propel themselves ahead of their competition to find a desirable and well-paid job.
