Winkworth’s Brighton & Hove office have reported a considerable increase in the number of buyers investing in a second home in the Brighton area in the last month, with approximately 60% of completed sales in this period being to buyers seeking secondary accommodation.
In December 2011 and January 2012, 0% of sales made from Winkworth Brighton & Hove were from London-based buyers, and in February, this increased swiftly to 50%. In March 2012, 100% of sales were to Londoners, and Winkworth Brighton & Hove reports that this trend appears to be continuing.
Emma Bailey, manager of Winkworth Brighton & Hove, commented: “We have received countless offers on Brighton apartments over the last few weeks, with many clients putting in offers over the asking price to firmly secure the deal. The demand for peaceful holiday homes on the Brighton coastline remains extremely strong.”
Mansion flats within the £350,000 to £900,000 price range are reported to be the most in-demand properties, with many London-based purchasers paying in cash. An exemplar property on the popular Kingsway sea-front was marketed by Winkworth for one week before receiving three offers at the asking price.
