Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, (15th November, 2011) – Displaysense, leading UK suppliers of shop fittings, reveal the results of a recent study they conducted on fashion retailers’ performance during the Christmas period.

Displaysense found that an increased use of changing rooms and the bustling atmosphere of fashion stores during the festive season results in a considerably high amount of garments – approximately 30 per cent – being put on the sale rails due to wear and tear damage, instead of selling at full price.

The leading UK shop fittings supplier is urging retailers to invest in garment fabric steamers, wood hangers and other quality-oriented equipment which allow staff to maintain stock to ensure it always looks its best, in order to avoid losing out on maximum profit.

Displaysense marketing manager Jim Moody commented: “Once a customer tries a garment on, it is usually put in a holding bin or clothes rail, and this may happen to the same item several times a day. During busy periods the garment is likely to get creased and dirty if dropped on the floor. Retail staff do not have time to wash and iron clothes and this is generally not possible for new items. However, a fabric steamer gives staff the opportunity to freshen the item up, remove any creases and get the items back on the shop floor and hanging from quality wood hangers with very little time lost.

“This means there is more stock for sale on the shop floor, and the retailer does not have to cut the price just to shift unwanted items.”
