Trolex Connectors Chosen for use on Offshore Wells

Stockport, United Kingdom, (11th Oct 2011) – Trolex, a leading supplier and manufacturer of gas detection, machine condition monitoring, environmental control and gas recovery monitoring systems to the utilities industry, have been chosen to have its connectors used on Wellhead Control Modules on offshore wells.

They have been chosen by Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions, a leading provider of safety and control systems. Each offshore well consists of multiple bores drilling vertically and horizontally and has a ‘tree of valves’ to control the well pressure and shut down an individual well in an emergency. The Wellhead Control Module on a rig contains the valves and transmitters linked to each ‘tree of valves’ for each well, which are housed within a sliding drawer dedicated to each well.

The Trolex Exd TX3700 and TX3701 connectors have been used to connect the drawer to the transmitter and valve cable, and will isolate each drawer in the event of a problem or failure. The extremely robust, multi-pin connectors are designed for offshore, oil and gas exploration with proven reliability in heavy-duty, hazardous area applications.

One of the most important benefits of the design of the connectors is an improved assurance of the safety standards for installers and users in hazardous areas.

A spokesperson for Trolex said: “We are very pleased to announce that the Trolex Exd TX3700 and TX3701 connectors have been chosen by Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions for use on their Wellhead Control Modules. It is vital that those working in hazardous environments such as offshore wells are kept safe, and our connectors will help to do that. Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions are an industry leader and we are proud to be working with them.”

Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions have been supplying control system technology to the oil and gas industry since the early days of North Sea production. These include pneumatic, hydraulic and electronically automated control and safety shutdown systems for both manned and unmanned offshore installations.
